About Us

We are a mother-daugher startup studio in the heart of Westerville, Ohio. With a passion for the arts and all things creative, we love getting our hands dirty and digging in! Our dream of opening a children's art studio is something we share together. Our goal is to be like no other art studio out there. We are starting small; planting seeds in our community that will take root and grow! We love the quote: "from a small seed does the mighty sycamore grow". We have so many ideas about where we want to take this! Painted Hedgehog focuses on mixed media art, such as painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, sculpture and more! Children can feel free and uninhibited to explore their creative wild side without worrying about making a mess. Our classes always include a bit of education, a spark of creativity and a sprinkle of fun! Your young Matisse is sure to be delighted as they learn the basic art concepts and build on those principles over time.

Process-Based Approach

We believe children should have the freedom to explore their own creativity, make choices and work at their own pace, while downplaying the aesthetic value of the finished product. This promotes each child’s unique expression and discovery of the joy of art.

No matter what materials or themes we are working with, children are given suggested topics and techniques to spark their imagination and bring their ideas to life. We balance this approach with a mix of more structured, instructed projects so they can experience the realization that yes they can draw! They are not always given prescribed step-by-step procedures, directions, or examples to copy, as this can inhibit self-expression and foster pressure for perfection.

Our goal is to inspire children to think, feel, and see the world in new ways. We encourage them to communicate their ideas visually while offering personalized support during the creative process.
